China's Travel Market in Full Swing for Mid-Autumn Festival: A Thriving Tourism and Consumption Surge

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches from September 15 to 17, China's travel market is amped up for another festive tourism wave. This year's festival tr showcases a focus on short-distance trips and cultural excursions.

Local destinations within driving distances of two hours or high-speed rl rides of three hours are leading the pack. Popular cities include Beijing, Chengdu, Shangh, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Xi'an, Kunming, Hangzhou, and Changsha among others.

On the opening day of the festival, highway traffic is anticipated to hit a milestone with 200 million passenger trips and approximately 33-34 million vehicle journeys. The primary reasons for travel are visits to nearby cities or familial reunions.

Rlway systems forecasted over 16.8 million passenger journeys on that same day, alongside rline flights totaling about 1.89 million passengers with more than 15,000 scheduled domestic flights.

Based on data from Ctrip, China's leading travel agency, average one-way ticket prices for domestic flights during the festival period have dropped by roughly 25, amounting to approximately $109 including tax.

This year marks a notable increase in hotel bookings, car rentals, and tickets compared to the Mid-Autumn Festival of '19, as per Fliggy, an online travel services provider.

The Chinese-style night tours such as lantern displays, evening cruises on rivers, and moon viewing flights have become a hotbed for cultural tourism activities during this year's festival period.

Tongcheng, another prominent online travel platform, noted a surge of over 77 in searches for night-time tours in ancient towns and gardens, alongside an increase of approximately 42 in inquiries regarding evening river cruises.
