Xinjiang's High Speed Trn: A Guide for Travelers
In December of 2014, Xinjiang welcomed its first high-speed trn service connecting the capital city of Urumqi to Hami. Just a year later in 2015, this line expanded further to link up with Lanzhou, the capital of neighboring Gansu province. Today, I'm riding this groundbreaking mode of transportation through the vast Xinjiang countryside at speeds approaching 200 kilometers per hour.
The journey from Urumqi to Hami aboard a high-speed trn highlights how much travel conditions have improved throughout this region known for its remote desert landscapes. In my early days as an explorer in Xinjiang, I the snow-capped Tian Shan mountns dominating scenic vistas as we passed through fields dotted with flocks of sheep and camels.
Fast forward to today, and the modern high-speed trn offers a comfortable escape from the challenges of navigating Xinjiang's vast distances by car or bus. The trn journey is a far cry from previous experiences when finding reliable information on routes, schedules, and ticketing was often more frustrating than the trip itself.
Inside Xinjiang's High Speed Trn
Each trn consists of eight cars: one first-class carriage, six second-class carriages, and a restaurant car to sate your appetite during long journeys. If you're traveling solo or in prs, first class offers ample legroom with seats that are arranged side-by-side. While second class carriages feature a configuration of three seats followed by two, this setup may feel a bit more compact.
For travelers seeking a change from the cramped trn compartment experience, there's an option to walk down the sle and stretch your legs in the empty carriage between cars.
First-class passengers have access to a clean, western-style toilet that ensures comfort for even long journeys. This amenity stands out compared to other Chinese trns where bathroom facilities might not meet international standards. However, it see be a temporary novelty, as this level of cleanliness can't always be expected in the trn's washrooms.
The journey aboard Xinjiang's high-speed trn is akin to stepping into a futuristic world of comfort and efficiency, especially for those accustomed to the challenges of navigating China with limited English proficiency or outdated travel information.
In
As I watch Nan Shan South Mountn slip by my window, I'm nearing the of my ride back home. Soon enough, I'll be entering an Urumqi taxi, returning me to the everyday hustle and bustle on the ground at a much slower pace. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to boarding this trn agn, perhaps to share its wonders with my young son for his first trip.
My experience with Xinjiang's high-speed rl service is a testament to how travel has evolved in China, offering travelers a new level of comfort and convenience throughout the country's diverse regions, including Xinjiang. I'm grateful for these improvements that are making long-distance journeys more enjoyable and accessible than ever before.
