Xinjiang's High Speed Trn: A Traveler's Guide
In December of 2014, Xinjiang witnessed a groundbreaking moment with the inauguration of its first high-speed rlway line connecting Urumqi to Hami. Fast-forward to 2015 when this trlblazing transport system reached Lanzhou in Gansu province-this is how Xinjiang has been transformed from being synonymous with long-distance trn rides into an era of speedy rl travel.
The advent of this new high-speed rlway not only cuts the travel time between major cities like Urumqi and Lanzhou down to less than half, but it also paves a smoother journey along the Silk Road in Xinjiang. Take Turpan for instance, which was once a 3-hour bus ride away from Urumqi; today, you can enjoy this historic city as an easy day trip with just one hour aboard the high-speed trn.
Inside the state-of-the-art rlway carriage, there are two class options to choose from: first-class and second-class. The configuration varies between cars - one first-class car per trn, six second-class cars alongside a dedicated restaurant car for those wanting a comfortable dining experience on board.
First-class seats offer plenty of legroom with individual compartments for travelers looking for space and comfort. In contrast, the second-class setup is slightly tighter but still designed to ensure traveler satisfaction through comfortable seating arrangements.
The carriage features standard toilet facilities that cater to western preferences - these include clean washrooms equipped with actual seated toilets as opposed to squat or hanging types typically found in China. The bathroom also includes a well-placed power outlet for those needing electrical access, although I regret to inform you that cell reception ts to be spotty during the journey.
Upon departing Xinjiang's capital city Urumqi, I was greeted by the breathtaking views of the southern mountns through my trn window - a reminder of the scenic journey ahead. The trn ride was not just about speed; it offered comfort as well with spacious seating and clean amenities that surpassed many expectations for Chinese transportation standards.
