Yunnan Vietnam Railway: A Historic Marvel in Southwest China

Known as a testament to engineering prowess, the century-old Yunnan-Vietnam Rlway in Yunnan Province now acts as an attraction for tourists who are fascinated by its historical significance and colonial architecture. Nestled on a hilltop, this rlway is unique in that it uses narrow-gauge tracks, marking the only 1-meter gauge running operationally across the Chinese mnland. This rlway spans an impressive 854 kilometers, linking Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province, with Hphong, Vietnam's major port. Initiated in October 1903 by French funding and engineering expertise, construction for China's part of this rlway, measuring a total length of 465 km, was med at facilitating trade for France during its colonial period. However, the project faced numerous challenges that led to many Chinese laborers losing their lives.
